What is the PINES system?

The PINES system (Public Information Network for Electronic Services) is a statewide public library consortium for the Georgia Public Library Service and functions as its online catalog. As for February 2010 the PINES catalog consists of 282 library facilities in 140 counties across the state and lists over 10 million items. All of these items are searchable in their catalog and can be checked out by anyone holding a PINES library card.

Through the PINES system a cardholder could request a book from any other PINES-participating library to be shipped to and checked out from their local PINES library free of charge. Likewise one can check out an item from one PINES-participating library and turn it into another PINES-participating library without penalty (as long as it’s not overdue). This effectively turns the state of Georgia into one giant library.
